Porcelain fused to metal crowns (or called PFM crowns) can be seen as full-cast crowns which have fused on most or all part of the tooth. Metal alloys (Titanium compound is usually used to make the crown to stable the cost) with a quite high melting temperature are used to fused porcelain to the surface aiming to prevent the metal from melting. This makes sure the porcelain to bond without changing its color.
When the teeth are prepared for such crowns, an enough part of the tooth tissue gets removed making space for porcelain as well as the metal.
The porcelain crowns are the most favorable crowns because they match the natural color of the adjacent teeth easily better than metallic crowns. However, they cause many damage to the opposite teeth that the resin and metal crowns. In some cases show that the porcelain part of the crown can also break or chip off from the teeth.
In receding gums, such crowns are not appropriate as the porcelain can begin showing distinctively. They are the best suitable for the back and front teeth.
