What is sinus lift?
Sinus lift (or sinus augmentation) is a surgical bone grafting procedure that is performed in the maxillary sinus cavity, as it is required for dental implant. The first important thing you need to do is to have an initial dental consultation. For such an important surgery, the dentists need to accurately measure the height and width of your existing bone and to evaluate the health of your sinus.
Two techniques of sinus lift :
• The indirect sinus lift is used if the bone height is at least 7-8 mm. This process consists of three stages. With the indirect techniques firstly the bone is made thinner with the use of osteotomes, then soft tissues are exfoliated and bone graft material is placed into the newly created space.
• The direct sinus lift, which is used if the height is less, involves a large amount of surgical procedures. This process is also included 3 steps like indirect technique. In the direct sinus lift a small window is opened on the outside of the sinus wall and a small opening is created in the bone, which is also filled with bone material.
Postoperative instructions
Patients are advised to avoid coughing, sneezing, nose blowing forcefully, etc. in order not to disturb the restoration of bone tissue
