What is the maxillary sinus lift in implant surgery?

Patients who have lost teeth for a long time without replanting are more likely to have their jaw removed at the site of missing teeth. It requires lifting the sinus bone, bone graft before proceeding implant.

The problem that creates success for implants is the amount and the number of jawbones where the missing teeth are inserted. Upper jaw bone is considered one of the most difficult implant placement sites because bone mass and quality are insufficient and too close to the jaw. It requires lifting the sinus bone, bone graft before proceeding implant.

What is the maxillary sinus lift in implant surgery?

The maxillary sinus is the largest in all of the sinuses, located in the middle of the head and the nose, from tooth No. 4 to tooth No. 8. When all upper teeth are full, the jaw remains intact. Its in the middle of the head and nose. But when the upper jaw is lost, the bone is dissected, the jaw bone begins to expand and the jaw is destroyed from the inside out.

When performing a maxillary sinus lift, your doctor will perform an incision to expose your bones, and then remove some of your bones, in a circular shape. The position corresponding to the cut bone is then lifted into the sinus cavity, acting as a trapdoor and the space below is filled with bone grafting material. Raising the sinus cavity will increase the maxillary sinus width across a few mm to facilitate bone grafting before implantation.

In some cases, the surgeon will perform a bone graft that supports orthodontic implantation of bone or bone meal. The planting can be done at the same time as the sinus lift, or you may have to wait a few months after that.

Two techniques used by surgeons to lift the sinus are:

Lift the sinus

Opening a sinus is a technique whereby the doctor opens an incision on the gums to the jaw of the jaw. The doctor creates a small hole in the bone and then lifts the sinus membrane. The implanted implants will then be inserted to fill the space that holds the jawbone and the new sinus membrane. In the case of implanted sinus implants, implantation can be performed at the same time.

Finally, hygiene and closure of the wound. Osteoporosis can be anywhere from 6 to 9 months, depending on the patient's circumstances, but there are cases where the patient has to wait a lot longer.

Open the sinus

Just like a closed sinus lift, to open an open sinus, the doctor first opens the pathway on the gums to reach the sinus area.

After that, the surgeon creates the shape of the jaw-like shape in a circular or rectangular shape. The sinuses are lifted and the doctor will insert the implants into the space to fill.

Once the bone has been filled in the cavity, the window area is closed, the gum tissue will return to its original position. The process of lifting the sinus ends and the patient has to wait for the wound to heal, tissues and bones develop and stabilize and then place dental implants.

Note: the efficacy of the treatment can vary depending on each patient’s condition.
